Lucinda Childs Dance Company Friday, October 4th, at the new FringeArts building was divine. Beginning with a solo that had the audience holding each breath, the night built up into geometric compositions of challenging transitions and pattering simplicity. Each movement brought new shapes, lines and intersections, creating patterns of movement that provoked the eye and had the heart racing. With five movements all together, the evening ended with a controlled frenzy of thoughtful diagonals that highlighted the dancers’ endurance and Childs’ brilliance. Conveying the power of repetition, the classicism of numbers, and the limitless opportunity of chance, the performance was riveting and Lucinda Childs proved her mastery.
